We start our list with one of the best shop air filtration systems from our finds. We wholly trust this filter to be of help to anybody who buys it-no exceptions. It has double filters that work together to give the air in your shop the best purification!

The pre-filter of 5 microns and the filter of 1 micron combine to get rid of everything, starting from large dust particles to the minuscule pollen molecules that freely roam in the polluted air.

Start using this filter, and you will soon find that you are able to breathe more easily - you will feel fresh throughout the day.

Woodshop Air Filtration System Buying Guide

Woodshop Air Filtration System Buying Guide

It's easy to get conned when you are buying an air filter. In case you do get handed a bad one, it might take a few days for you to know that the air isn't getting properly cleaned after all.

So, to make you better acquainted with this product, we have prepared a list of factors that any good air filter must have.

Pay attention to them below!

Suitable Area Size

Big rooms need stronger air filters, and small rooms will need lighter air filters.

To know which woodshop air filtration system is suitable for the size of your room, you have to look at its CFM.

The CFM value represents the amount of space in a room that the filter will be able to clean within a single minute. A bigger CFM value means that the filter is meant for bigger rooms, and vice versa.

Domestic or small-scale regular-sized shops will be good with filters that are about 300 to 450 CFM, while large-scale industrial workshops will need filters with a range of 1000 to 1700 CFM.

Number and Size of Filters

This, of course, determines how the main filtration system of the device will work. There will usually be two filters installed in these devices - a filter on the outside and one on the inside.

The outer filter will have a size of about 5 microns, and this is where the first layer of filtering will happen. All the large dust particles will get caught in the screen that's inside this one.

The inner filter will have a size of about 1-micron. This will capture all the fine particles that flew right through the outer filter.

Additionally, some filtering devices have a third filter on the outside. This is called an electrostatic filter, and it is very superbly efficient at capturing dust particles by using its electrostatic charges.

Strength of the Motor

Without a strong motor, even the best woodshop air filtration system would be perfectly useless.

The motors that are capable of producing good satisfactory results in this case usually are of ⅓ hp or ⅕ hp. But if you have a large-scale, industrial woodshop, we would recommend you take a motor that runs on ⅙ or ⅛ HP.

Take a look at the RPM value of the motor as well. RPM value refers to the speed at which the fan inside will rotate. Most motors have variable RPM values. But a safe range for regular woodshops is 1200 - 1700 RPM.

Noise Produced

Since you're keeping the device inside your woodshop, we are sure that you want it to be as quiet as possible.

For industrial wood shops,  maybe a noisy filter won't make much of a difference, but if you have a small woodshop, then the noise level is definitely a factor for you to consider.

For small shops, your filter must have a range of about 25 - 35 dB. But in the case of a large scale shop, you can go with a filter in a range of 40 to 70 dB.

Additional Features

Additional Features

If you want very efficient cleaning, you should get a device with two more features on top of being a triple filter system. These two features are a diffuser and an exhaust fan.

The diffuser will help by spreading out the clean filtered air more quickly over a wider space. On the other hand, the exhaust fan will help you control the direction in which the air will flow out.

Tips to Use And Install a Shop Air Filtration System

Wood shop air filters work best when they're mounted up on the ceiling. But the problem is that they're super heavy - if one somehow falls, then you'll be done for.

We have gathered up a set of practical tips from other woodshop air filtration reviews, and they might help to make the installation process easier while also making it more secure.

  • Use a tall ladder so that you don't have to struggle with reaching the exact height. The ladder should be good enough to give you some support while you're working.
  • Do not use toggle bolts because they are flimsy and might come off. Use solid joists instead.
  • Check the spacing between the joists before you drill the pilot holes in. Sometimes the joists do not have adequate spacing between them, and this might make things much more difficult for you to manage if you find out too late.
  • Use some tape to keep the hooks secure on the ceiling as you work the rest of your way through the installation. This will free up both your hands and help you work better.

People Also Asked

1. Is the Air Filter The Same As a Dust Collector?

No, the dust collector only removes very large dust molecules, whereas the air filter removes both large and fine dust particles.

2. Isn't CFM and RPM the Same Thing?

They are not the same thing. CFM is a measure of the amount of space that will be cleared by the fan within a minute. RPM is a measure of how fast the motor turns the fan.

3. What is the Best Indicator of An Air Filter's Performance?

The specifications of its motor and the filters' size are the two things you must inquire about before buying a filter.

4. Where Should I Install My Air Filter for the Most Efficient Filtering?

First of all, it will be better to place it above head level. If you want a general cleaning of the whole air in the room, place it close to the ceiling, as close to the center as possible.

5. How to Extend the Life of the Filters?

How to Extend the Life of the Filters

You have to clean them regularly if you want them to last a long time. Outer filters are rough, so you can just wash them in water and dry them out properly before putting them back in.

Inner filters are a bit delicate, so you shouldn't wash them. You should remove the dust from them by blowing hot air through the filter with a hairdryer.

Final Words

If you've been running a woodshop for some time, you already know that air filters are absolutely necessary.

The best woodshop air filtration system will not only help your health; it will also clean your space so that customers stay longer in your shop.

It's in everyone's best interest that you get a good air filter, so choose one from the list and get it for your shop right now!

  1. Kor van der Meulen

    Dear madam, sir,
In all of these so called air cleaners the inner filter is NOT a 1 micron type.
I’ve measured it according ISO 16890 / EN 779 and it is classified as ePM10-50 % / M6 (or old class F6) so most of particles <1 micron will penetrate. 50% of 10 micron passes.
The problem is, that you cannot see particles smaller than 3 micron so it is easy to tell that fine dust won't come through.
These type of units should be taken from the market to protect peoples health. You should not take risks with inferior filters. Fine dust is killing!
Also the performance of the fan is reduced because of pressure drop of the filters, so your shop is not filtered in the time as you're told.
If you like to have any advise please contact me.
    Best regards,

    Kor van der Meulen
