A William and Mary giltwood overmantel mirror by William German. The backboard retains the chalk inscription ‘W. German’. Very few examples of signed mirrors exist, and those that do mostly date from the 18th and 19th centuries. No other signed 17th century mirror has come to light. Two narrow border plates have been replaced.
