The design of the frame, incorporating an anthemion cresting flanked by scrolling foliage, relates to a drawing for an overmantel mirror by John Linnell preserved in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Other elements of the design can be seen in a pier glass and pelmets made by him for Shardeloes, Buckinghamshire, for William Drake.
The mirror plate is a 19th century replacement.
