A LARGE GEORGE III MAHOGANY NEEDLEWORK ARMCHAIR

A mid 18th century Chippendale period mahogany open armchair of large scale, the acanthus carved shaped crest rail above a pierced splat with foliate carved outswept arms and scroll terminals on swept back supports, the serpentine padded seat upholstered in contemporary fine French silk and wool needlework centred by a cartouche depicting figures within a pastoral landscape with a foliate and strapwork border against a cream ground, with swept back legs and acanthus carved cabriole front legs terminating in claw and ball feet.
